VOTE THESE B-STARDS OUT! AND WHERE IS THE PRESS?????If we aren't going to take abuse from Big Government Dem-Marxists like BarryO, then why should we take it from the Republicans here in NY. We have CUOMO, another 2-faced Big Government gold-digger and Useless Idiot. WHAT ever happened to his SEC guys who were sleeping? Or his HUD boys who got away w/murder? Who do we think help get him ELECTED! Cuomo and his buds, these Republicans, are on drugs: where's the real justice & equality? Heh, in fact, WHERE'S THE DRUG-TESTING for all members of the state Congress & the US Congress? And some of us locals here think Skelos is above board...ain't so it seems, esp. in LongIsland. We need to continue work on conservative-principled members, not communist big government oligarchies on the state AND federal level. WE MUST REFUSE TO LIVE THIS WAY. THIS is why bureaus like the EPA, CAIR, ACLU & ACORN get their way. THIS IS NOT LIBERTY.

Property taxes are the most difficult problem we face on Long Island. The major portion of our property tax is the school tax. I believe there are something like 126 school districts in Nassau County alone. Just think of the savings if they were consolidated. As of now school superintendants make in excess of 150-200 thousand a year and retire with nice packages worth much, much more. One consolidated school district would save millions, in school superintendants salaries alone. Think of the purchasing power one consolidated school district would have, forcing suppliers to lower their prices. Another reason our school taxes are so high is the number of illegal apartments in homes where there are children who are attending our schools but parents (renters) not paying their fair share. If school taxes were based on income, not property ownership, everyone would share the costs. Instead of a deduction for a school age child, perhaps a sur charge could be levied. This way, as a family's children left the school system, their tax burden would ease gradually. I am sure seniors would like this system. I suggested some of these points at a town meeting some years ago and was told by the local politicians that I did not know what I was talking about. I am disgusted with the current system and the career politicians that are only in office for their own gain and greed. I, for one, will not be staying on Long Island when I retire, as the taxes will drive me away. Long Island, one day, will be inhabited by the very rich, and the very poor, with no middle class left. What a shame.

The Port Authority would do well to be reminded of the following quote concerning public employment:

"Government jobs belong to the American people, not politicians and shall be filled only with regard to public service."
- Theodore Roosevelt

In my opinion, all public employees making over $100K/yr should be made to reapply for their jobs at a minimum 20% paycut, as many private sector workers have had to do in the past 3 years. And awarding of these positions should be based on merit, not patronage or minority status. All members of the PA board should honestly ask themselves, "which employees am I protecting without regard to qualifications?" An honest evaluation will find that there are many that merely "exist" there, adding little or no value to the work environment. A common estimate among my coworkers was, "20% of employees do 80% of the work." I've heard this ratio expressed by retirees that worked there much longer than I did. In my experience there (just short of 9 years), the ratio seemed to hold true.

I count myself as one of the outraged tollpayers that feels the rate of reform is way too slow at the Port Authority, and they are not held accountable to the public they are supposed to serve.

But I'm not sure I agree with your statement, "The average PA retiree receives $143K a year". If this document from the empirecenter.org website is accurate, the PA does account for 27 of the top 100 NYS pensions:

http://www.empirecenter.org/files/Top100Pensions2010.pdf

Perhaps the statement should be, "of the top 300 pension earners, those from the PA average $143K"?

Thank you, Mr. Marlin, for speaking out on behalf of the average citizen.
